No former owner marks, but I guess this might have been read, but with great care and respect. David Wroblewski grew up in rural Wisconsin, not far from the Chequamegon National Forest where The Story of Edgar Sawtelle is set. The author has signed this on the title page. It contains, of course, the same utterly wonderful and beguiling story. However, this is therefore a more affordable 'first' than the true first. So, the true first is the one issued in June, with an untrimmed leading edge and no additional lines on the jacket. This is the issue with a trimmed leading edge.

The third difference is with the text block. It differs by having a different ISBN number and the words 'NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER' across the top of the jacket, and an Oprah's Book Club seal attached at the bottom right hand corner. This second state of the first edition - I said it was confusing! - was rushed out with four changes, but with the same publishing number line. This is a slightly confusing issue the 'true first printing' was in June, and that has no top line on the jacket and was issued with a different ISBN. Where possible, all books come with dust jacket in a clear protective plastic sleeve, sealed in a ziplock bag, wrapped in bubble wrap, shipped in a box. The first novel by the author of Big Questions About Dogs and People. The book was an Oprah Book Club pick, a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, and winner of the Colorado Book Award, the Indie Choice Best Author Discovery Award, and the Midwest Bookseller Association's Choice Award. Book would be as new except for mild softening to the base of the spine, a nick to the bottom of one board, and toning to the edges of the pageblock.
